AMC Theaters Give HUGE Discount Benefitting Charity: $1 Movies

AMC Theaters strike again with a great movie discount ($1 movies) this summer benefitting charity.  Maybe the movie theaters are feeling the economic pinch also.  Or maybe they have realized that people aren't able to pay the high prices for snacks.  But we like to think it's because they care about kids and people that suffer from pulmonary disease.

This summer from June 17th - August 5th, AMC will deliver $1 movies every Wednesday at 10AM.  They are calling it their Summer Movie Camp.  They will donate all of the door and concession proceeds to their two favorite charities:  Variety and the Will Rogers Institute.

Jack In the Box Making Waves in Mobile Coupons with FREE Food Deals

Giving away FREE food via mobile coupons is something that Jack in the Box knows more than a little bit about. Since January of 2009, Jack in the Box has teamed-up with Mobile Posse to serve deals for free food to subscribers. These are the sort of forward-thinking deals that Qmania loves. That's why we're telling you about it.

Jack in the Box is going through a great re-branding that includes everything from viral video, creative TV spots and "buzzworthy" mobile coupons. We predict that their competitors in the quick serve restaurant space (QSR) will attempt to follow suit. If they don't, they are crazy.

One way other QSRs can do it is to mimic the deals below and co-brand the coupon. Notice that these Jack in the Box deals are paired with Coca Cola. This is subtle, but quite powerful. Currently, the 3 deals Jack in the Box is running are fantastic and have a "buzz factor" going off the charts. They are:

2. FREE Pita Snack with purchase of any Coke
3. Upgrade to a combo for FREE

The great thing about this Jack in the Box / Mobile Posse push is that that it's relevant to a niche group of consumers that is growing daily. Though most Americans use their phones only to leave and retrieve voice mails (what Qmania likes to call "leave & retrievers"), the numbers of consumers that are using their phones to send video, redeem deals, listen to music, sync their CRM solutions and decipher QR codes is growing so quickly that advertisers are struggling to keep up.

FREE Grilled Chicken at KFC - Deal!

KFC and The Colonel have gotten our attention by offering a free piece of grilled chicken today (4/27/09). We love deals and if this isn't the epitome of a "buzzworthy" deal, then Bob's-your-monkey's-uncle...or something like that.

Taking a page from the Denny's "free pancake" deal a few months ago, KFC realizes that a little PR can go a long way. Their hope is that consumers will stop by and try a free piece. The burning question for us here at Qmania is: "What is this grilled piece of chicken and is it actually healthy?"

According to the brain trust at KFC, the chicken is marinated and seasoned with a blend of "secret herbs" and other goodies then slow-grilled. It weighs in at 9g of fat and between 70 - 180 calories. Go to their site to learn more about the nutrition of their other items.

There is word that there will be other hook-ups from KFC in the near future here on Qmania.

Del Mar Icon: Board & Brew to Open Location in Carlsbad

The sandwich, cerveza and surf institution known as Board & Brew in Del Mar, California is opening a second location in Carlsbad in May.  It's true and you heard it here on Qmania first.  People talk about these sandwiches like they cure cancer.  They may very well get deep into the marrow and heal your soul.  We wouldn't know.  We've never been!  We're almost too ashamed to admit that.

The folks of "North County" (what locals call Northern San Diego County) are in for a treat.  The 2nd Board & Brew is to open in Carlsbad in May of 2009.  We can't imagine how popular this place is going to be.  As popular as Shady Grove in Austin?  As popular as the Wiener Circle in Chicago?  Pink's hotdogs for tourists in LA?  Probably 10 times all of them combined, based on the reviews people are writing about the original location on Yelp.  These people are zealots!  Yikes!  This is what we like to call "cult dining"...with a sun tan.

We feel the peer pressure to take a special trip out there just to try the Turkado sandwich people keep raving about.  But then we'd have to compete with the starving surfers and students at Carlsbad High, MiraCosta College and all of the other schools in the area.

Gamefly Gives FREE Trial Membership

If you are not a gamer, then this post will mean little to nothing to you.  A free trial membership to Gamefly so that that you can try out many games for free is a fantastic.  The staff at Qmania never really knew what to think about Gamefly.  Now is our chance to give it a go and learn if it's worth the cost after the trial.
